Google SERP features: every result type Greater Search Console tracks
Greater Search Console saves the Google results page for the searches you track, every day, on desktop and mobile. It labels every block on that page with one of the 43 result types below. This guide explains each one: what it is, when Google shows it, how Search Console counts it, and how it shows up in Greater Search Console.
43 result types · 9 groups · Updated Oct 1, 2026
How Greater Search Console shows them
Open any tracked query in Greater Search Console and its SERP table lists the saved results page as data, one row per block:
- Every block, in Google's order
- The whole results page for each query you track, saved every day on desktop and mobile.
- GSC POS
- The position Search Console gives each block, worked out with Google's counting rules.
- ORG RANK
- Your rank among the regular results only, the number most rank trackers show.
- A tag per type
- The 3-letter tags in this guide, so you can scan a page at a glance and filter by type.
- YOU
- Marks your site wherever it appears: a regular result, an AI Overview source, a map pack listing or a People also ask answer.
This guide and the app read the same list of result types, so the names, tags and counting rules always match.
How to read an entry
- ORGTag
- The short tag the type carries in the app's SERP table. Each entry starts with it.
- Drawing
- A simplified sketch, not a screenshot. Google tests and changes its layouts all the time, and they differ by device and country.
How Search Console counts positions
- 1Search Console numbers the blocks on a results page from top to bottom: the main column first, then the right side.
- 2A block takes one position, however many links it holds. A carousel, an AI Overview or a knowledge panel is one position, and every link in it gets that number.
- 3Ads take no position.
- 4Links that start a new search, such as related searches, take no position and get no impressions.
- 5Blocks with no links take no position.
- 6Your position for a search is the top spot any link to your site took. Search Console averages it over every search.
Google doesn't document every block type. Where it's silent, this guide says so, and Greater Search Console counts the block as one position. The count carries on to page 2. Source: Google's help page on impressions, position and clicks.

Organic results
The regular web results Google ranks. · 2 types
Organic result
A regular web result: a page Google ranked for the search, shown as a title link, the site's name and address, and a short text snippet. Google calls it a text result.
- When it shows up
- Almost every search. Page 1 usually holds 7 to 10 of them, fewer when other blocks take space.
- Search Console
- One positionOne position each. Search Console's average position for a page is the highest spot any of your links took, averaged over every searcher.
- What you can do
- Helpful, crawlable pages. Google writes the title link and the snippet from your page (its title, headings and meta description).
- In Greater Search Console
- The domain and path, and its rank among organic results (ORG RANK). Open it for the title, the full URL and the snippet Google showed.
- The snippet is the text Google showed that day. It is often, but not always, the page's meta description.

Featured snippet
A box that quotes a short answer from one page first and shows the page's title and link after it. It usually sits at the top of the organic results.
- When it shows up
- Questions such as "how long does painted cabinetry last".
- Search Console
- One positionOne position, like a regular result.
- What you can do
- You can't mark a page for it: Google picks the passage. Clear, direct answers under descriptive headings help. Opt out with nosnippet or max-snippet.
- In Greater Search Console
- The quoted page's domain and path. Open it for the title, URL and quoted text.

AI
Answers Google writes with AI, with links to their sources. · 1 type
AI Overview
An AI-written summary at or near the top of the page, with links to the pages it drew from (its sources). Google shows it only when it thinks it adds to the regular results, so many searches have none.
- When it shows up
- Broad and how-to questions, such as "how much does it cost to paint kitchen cabinets".
- Search Console
- One positionThe whole AI Overview is one position, and every link in it gets that number. If Google cites you, Search Console can show a top position even when your organic rank is lower. Since August 2026, Search Console's Generative AI performance report counts AI Overview and AI Mode impressions.
- What you can do
- No special markup: the page must be indexed and allowed to show a snippet. Limit it with nosnippet or max-snippet, or keep your site out of AI features with Search Console's Search generative AI setting.
- In Greater Search Console
- How many sources it cites, and "includes you" when one is your site. Open it for the text and each source (yours tagged YOU).
- Google sometimes loads it a moment after the rest of the page. Greater Search Console waits for it, so those count too.
- It can appear one day and not the next for the same search.
